The Service

ROMSEY GOOD NEIGHBOURS are a group of volunteers who offer to take elderly, infirm or disabled people of Romsey to attend hospital, doctor, dentist, optician or any other medical appointment. ROMSEY GOOD NEIGHBOURS can also provide transport to enable these people to visit relatives in hospital.

The service is provided for Romsey and Romsey Extra parishes. We will only undertake journeys from adjacent parishes where there is no similar organisation.

Requesting the Service

To request transport, please telephone any Coordinator between 0830 and 1800 Monday to Friday, if possible giving at least five days clear notice. (Not including weekends.)
Please try another coordinator if you fail to reach your first choice. All coordinators work independently from the same details and list of drivers. They will find an available driver and inform you of the arrangements.

In an emergency requests can be made in the evening or weekends, however it may not be possible to find an available driver at short notice.

Coordinators

Mrs Shirley Horne - 01794 518592   Mrs Diane Dawkins - 01794 518969
  Mrs Jillian Pile - 01794 514676
Miss Ruby Hatch - 01794 514872   Barbara Harper - 01794 522803

Payment

Contributions are requested from clients to cover only the running costs of the volunteer's car.
The following rates apply (at February 2007):

The return is normally expected to be within 2 hours; longer may mean a double charge.

For other journeys the Coordinator will tell you the amount when the booking is made, based on 40p per mile.

If you have a Test Valley Borough Council "Farepass", this can be used to pay for the journey. The coordinator will require the serial number of your "Farepass" at the time of booking, which will then need to be verified before commencing the journey.
