THE SERVICE
ROMSEY GOOD NEIGHBOURS are a group of volunteers who offer to take elderly, infirm or disabled people of Romsey to attend hospital, doctor, dentist, optician or any other medical appointment. ROMSEY GOOD NEIGHBOURS can also provide transport to enable these people to visit relatives in hospital.
The service is only provided in Romsey, Romsey Extra, Ampfield and Braishfield.
REQUESTING THE SERVICE
To request transport, please telephone a Co-ordinator between 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday, if possible giving at least five days clear notice. (Not including weekends.)
In an emergency only, requests can be made in the evening or at the weekend; however it may not be possible to find an available driver at short notice.
CO-ORDINATORS
Phone one of these to arrange transport:-
| 08450 94 96 71 (Annette) | 08450 94 96 72 (Shirley) | |
| 08450 94 96 73 and 08450 94 96 75 (Barbara) | ||
| 08450 94 96 74 (Diane) | 08450 94 96 76 (Pam) |
These numbers can be switched between Co-ordinators so that as many numbers as possible are available. However do remember that the Co-ordinators are also volunteers and don’t work set hours so there could be a possibility that none are available at the time that you phone. Please always remember to make a note of the Co-ordinator and the Driver dealing with your journey as the Co-ordinators work independently of each other.
Please try an alternative number if you fail to reach your first choice.
PAYMENT
Contributions are requested from clients to cover only the running costs of the volunteer’s car.
The following rates apply (from January 2009):-
Journeys within the Romsey boundaries and return - £3-50
To Southampton General & Spire hospitals and return - £7-50
To Royal South Hants (Southampton) & Royal Hampshire County (Winchester) hospitals and return - £9-00
The return journey is expected to be within two hours, longer visits may mean a double charge.
For other journeys, the Co-ordinator will tell you the amount when the booking is made, based on 40p per mile.
If you are the holder of a Test Valley Borough Council “Farepass”, your journey may be subsidised.
The Co-ordinator will give you details and will require the serial number of your “Farepass” at the time of booking which will then need to be verified by the Driver before the start of the journey.
