The Inner Wheel Club of Romsey Test currently has 38 members. It meets at 7.30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the The White Horse Hotel, The Hundred, Romsey.

Our membership, which is by invitation and open to wives, partners and relatives of Rotarians has a very active social calendar as well as being involved in a varied and enjoyable programme of service and fund-raising activities.

Of particular note in Romsey are the club's involvement with 'Reminisences of Romsey' in February each year, when we provide teas for approximately 180 local pensioners and The Mayor's Picnic, where we support our Rotary Partners. We also join with the Rotary club of Romsey Test for some fundraising and social activities.

The club appoints a new President in July each year. The President for the year 2009-2010 is Helen White - Telephone: 01794 514151.
The Vice President is Hilary Mitchell Telephone: 01794 368901 Email

THE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The aims and objectives of the organisation are FRIENDSHIP AND SERVICE. Wherever there are Inner Wheel Clubs there are friends waiting and willing to help each other. This friendship is universal and can be experienced by all who join the Movement. Clubs sponsor and support many worthwhile causes both at home and overseas and this service is always happily and readily given. Financial aid is given to fund community projects in this country and overseas.

Each year the Association President names the charity of her choice and Clubs send money to this project purely on a voluntary basis. The amount raised normally goes into five figures and a cheque is handed over to a representative from the charity at the Annual Conference. Every so often Overseas Service projects are also run on a national level.

HISTORY

From small beginnings Inner Wheel has grown into one of the largest women's organisations in the world. It all started on the 10th January 1924, when Mrs. Oliver Golding presided over a Club formed in Manchester of Rotarians' wives. This Club was the first one to bear the name INNER WHEEL. The anniversary of this milestone is celebrated each year on World Inner Wheel Day.

In the next years the Organisation grew until, in 1934, when seventy nine Clubs had been formed, it was decided to unite them into the ASSOCIATION OF INNER WHEEL CLUBS GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND. By this time these first seventy nine Clubs - subsequently known as the SEVENTY-NINERS were already grouped into Districts with the same boundaries as those of Rotary.

By 1967 the movement had spread to the rest of the world and it was decided to form INTERNATIONAL INNER WHEEL, to be governed by a Board comprising representatives from each country with the qualifying number of Districts and Clubs. Every three years a Convention is held, countries offering hospitality to host this important event.
